More Than Ninety Minutes
Going to the football has never really been just about what happens on the pitch. The journey, the people, the rituals and the hope are all part of it.

Football would be much easier if it were only about ninety minutes.
You could turn up, watch the match, accept the result and go home.
It doesn't work like that.
Before a ball is kicked
Matchday starts long before kick-off.
There's the decision to go, sorting out the day, getting there, seeing familiar faces and that gradual change in atmosphere as you get closer to the ground.
Then comes the completely irrational optimism.
Whatever happened last week doesn't matter quite as much anymore. This could be the day everything clicks.
Then the football happens
Sometimes it's brilliant.
Sometimes you spend a significant amount of money and several hours of your life watching something that makes you question every decision that brought you there.
And somehow you still come back.
Because supporting a football club isn't a transaction where entertainment is guaranteed in return for the price of admission.
It's belonging to something.
The good days wouldn't feel anywhere near as good without all the others.
And next match?
We'll probably convince ourselves all over again.
